As I sat in the stadium, dressed in my game day attire, I couldn’t help but reminisce on my time at the University of Alabama. My eyes open with excitement the morning of. Memories of the fall creep back into my mind. The Tuscaloosa streets are overcrowded with fans driving in to support ‘The Tide.'

Full Moon Bar-B-Que is a home away from home
Full Moon is more than just a restaurant to me. It resembles tradition, family, history and, most importantly, home. The song, “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers played over the loud speaker as I slid into a booth at an oh so familiar restaurant. I hummed along to the song and placed the number for my order in the holder on the table as I waited for the waitress to bring my food.

Diversity should be a main priority in journalism
Diversity has always been a hot-button topic in journalism, the media and even the country. With the country constantly changing as more people populate and migrate, the U.S. needs voices for addressing issues related to gender, race and sexuality to come from people who experience it firsthand. As a person who wears several different hats – journalist, woman and African-American – it’s better for the media to have representation when reporting.

The Internet is a vast and scary place. It’s free for everyone to use, and because of that, people either choose to use it their advantage, try to avoid it completely or use it for the wrong reasons. With the spike in popularity of social media over the last decade, more people are choosing to use the Internet more than ever before –– teachers, media organizations, teenagers and even grandparents.

My race shouldn't be the only thing that defines me
The University of Alabama had been my dream school since I was three years old – even before I knew what I wanted to do with my life. Race was always apparent in my life – growing up in a family with a retired military father and in a small town close to a military base – but it was never an issue.

Alexis Faire has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama and a Master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communications - Emerging Media from the University of Georgia. She previously working different editor positions for her campus publications where she gained experience in print publication, digital publication, editing, photography, and feature writing.

Over the last 10 years, Alexis has professionally developed her skills in customer service, project management, freelance reporting, digital media, publication, etc.

Alexis enjoys meeting new people, storytelling, and providing voices for the unheard.
